Health Care

Health care in Saskatchewan is funded by the provincial and federal governments:

  • Unlike other Canadian provinces, there are no personal premiums or personal charges for basic and needed health services in Saskatchewan.
  • Employers do not pay premiums for provincial health care costs for their employees.
Saskatchewan has been a leader in health care for almost 50 years:
  • Saskatchewan pioneered universal hospital care insurance in the 1940s and comprehensive medical coverage in the 1960s.
  • The top priority of our government is a commitment to an accessible, quality health care system.
  • Saskatchewan has a comprehensive health plan to address the issues that people say matter the most.
  • The plan is a practical, balanced approach to change at a manageable pace, and offers strong leadership by taking the necessary steps to improve health care for families and communities throughout our province.
  • Saskatchewan's wellness model promotes preventive care and innovative service delivery with a system of health care districts across the province.
