A wealth of natural resources, innovative technologies and a competitive business climate — with a diverse and robust export-based economy tapped into a broad range of global markets — have made Saskatchewan a magnet for international investment.
When it comes to securing the future — whether it is for families, communities, industries or an entire economy — there are certain things that must be in place and, above all, be of a quality equal to the task.
There must be material at hand. This includes assets such as natural resources, businesses to access them, skilled people to run them, investors to support and encourage them, and the strategies to guide them. There must be a vision to base these strategies upon, and there must be policies, programs and initiatives to enact them. Most importantly, there must be consistency, sustainability and creativity driving it all forward in a responsible manner.
Saskatchewan, it can be said, has all of these elements. Our province possesses a wealth of qualities and characteristics that have made it today one of Canada’s pacesetters in economic growth and opportunity. Total investment in Saskatchewan, as just one example, is expected to exceed $17 billion in 2011 for the first time ever. This figure has more than doubled since 2004, and foreign firms contribute about 8% of the total investment in the province. Commitments of this nature simply don’t happen where there is uncertainty or instability; rather, they show the highest level of confidence in the future of our province.
The potential and promise of this future lies in the ability of our people, our businesses and our government working in mutual support and collaboration. The responsibility of ensuring this happens — and that this future indeed becomes a reality for us and for our children — rests in large part upon our agency, Enterprise Saskatchewan.
