Right now, my impression is … it’s very vibrant.”

"For years Alberta enjoyed the so-called Alberta advantage, a combination of low taxes, small government, and the most attractive investment climate in the country. What we're seeing now is a chipping away of that advantage, as both Saskatchewan and B.C. have reduced business taxes and introduced other policies that encourage capital investment."

"Unlike most of the rest of Canada, frankly, and probably unlike most of the rest of the world, I think for Saskatoon and Saskatchewan as a whole (the recession) has really allowed the province to catch its breath. For a lot of North America and a lot of the world we've seen a lot of increased unemployment and, if not recession, then shrinking growth down to flat, whereas Saskatchewan has seen continued growth and is at half the unemployment rate as the rest of Canada."
Matthew Bosrock, Deputy CEO, HSBC Bank Canada – November 5, 2009

"Petrobank took pains to point out in a news release that the approval process for its toe-to-heel air injection, or THAI, demonstration project in a heavy oil formation near Kerrobert, SK, took just 56 working days – less than three months – while similar projects in Alberta's oil sands regions are taking years."
Calgary Herald – October 28, 2009

According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business ranking of Canada's Top 10 Entrepreneurial Cities, this year's top-ranked entrepreneurial city in Canada is Saskatoon. For Gordon Ashdown, the owner of Can-West Agencies Ltd., a wholesale distribution company in Saskatoon, the reversal of fortunes is welcomed. "We now have an environment that's really good to work in and it's improving all the time," he said. "Just the business-friendly government has made a huge difference in Saskatchewan."

"The U.S. buys more oil from Saskatchewan than it does from Kuwait. No wonder the CEO of one Fortune 500 company describes the prairie province as the 'next sovereign wealth fund'."
