Regulatory Modernization

The Competitiveness and Strategic Issues Division

The Competitiveness and Strategic Issues Division of Enterprise Saskatchewan examines the province's business climate with a view to identifying competitive advantages and disadvantages, particularly relative to other jurisdictions. Division staff identify and address barriers to investment and growth in strategic sectors, including issues related to taxation, labour shortages, and regulatory inefficiencies. The Competitiveness and Strategic Issues Division researches, analyzes and recommends solutions to make the provincial business environment more attractive for investment.

The Business Services Improvement Branch exists within the Competitiveness and Strategic Issues Division of Enterprise Saskatchewan to deal specifically with regulatory modernization and support the important work of the Regulatory Modernization Council.

From an assessment conducted by the Enterprise Saskatchewan of regulatory review activities in other jurisdictions, 11 strategic themes for regulatory modernization have been identified.

Saskatchewan's governing principles on regulation include consultation with citizens and business, sustainability, efficiency, harmonization and transparency.

The Regulatory Code of Conduct is a system that outlines procedures for developing or changing regulations and legislation that have an impact on the economy.

All presentations from the conference are available here in PowerPoint format.
